Happy to be Hidden?

Joseph did his time in prison.

The pain here is that of frustration.  Frustration due to unrecognition.  You’re doing your best, serving those around you – your boss, family, church – and it just seems to go unrealised.  You know you’re doing the right thing but in your heart you know you were born for more than this.  Did God bring you out of the pit for just this?  Surely there’s more.

This is a hard place.  This is treadmill – walking and walking but not really going anywhere.  It is a place of hidden-ness.  But I believe to be truly effective servant of God we must learn to be happy to be hidden.

I have realised in recent times how god wants me to be hidden. Not hidden in fear or intimidation, or hidden from him but hidden in him.  Look at the verses:

1 Peter 3:3-4
Dont let your adornment be merely outward…rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Colossians 3:3
3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Psalms 51:6

you desire truth in the inward parts and in the hidden part you will make me to know wisdom.

Psa 139 :15

my frame was not hidden from you…

Psalms 27:5

he shall hide me in his tabernacle.

Matthew 6:6
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

There is nothing negative about any of these verses.

When we serve God because we feel the need to be seen to be serving, then the only person we are really serving is our own insecurities and ourselves.  God will allow us to do that for so long then everything will come crashing down on us.

God wants us to reach a place where he is our hiding place – not our talents or jobs or even our problems, because we can hide in our problems if we feel that they are all we have.  God wants us to know, not that we are enough but to know that he is enough.
